Excepting where required as a component of advancement, kobudo classes are generally NOT part of our regular karate curriculum.  Offered as a complimentary course of training, kobudo classes are taught at specific times separate from karate and have their own schedule of fees (tuition).

Heiwa-do karate and Yamanni-ryu kobudo are both difficult and demanding arts in their own right.  As such, 'beginning' karate students are prohibited from studying both karate and kobudo simultaneously.  Karate students must be at least 7th kyu to participate in weapons training.
This prohibition does not affect applicants who wish to participate in our 'kobudo' only program.

There are many kinds of staves of many different sizes used in the martial arts.  The 'roku-shaku bo' or 'six foot staff' is the preferred weapon of the Yamanni-ryu practioner.
Younger practioners use porportionately smaller 'bo' to accomodate their diminutive size.

Bo kata practiced include the following:

Don Yukon Ichi
Choun no kon sho
Choun no kon dai
Suuji no kon
Ryubi no kon
Sakugawa no kon

Knives used in training are specially made practice knives made of aluminum, wood, or rubber.  The practice knife shown above measures eight inches overall and is made of aluminum.

Aloha to Sensei Roman Cruz, a longtime student of the art of Kenpo, for his knife training expertise.
