The Way of Peace & Harmony

The Dojo are attended to by many talented student volunteers.
SENPAI are leaders, first and foremost.  They are the senior students within a dojo, whose perseverance and dedication contribute considerably to making a mediocre dojo good and a good dojo GREAT.

The Senpai Pledge

I pledge myself to be worthy of the honor of senpai by setting a proper example for my fellow students to follow.

Recognizing the value of working together, I will volunteer my time and skills to assist in helping others.

Further, I will strive each day to strengthen my character, nourish my spirit, and extend my capabilities.

Respecting the purposes and principles of Heiwa-do Karate, I resolve to uphold my responsibilities with humbleness and pride.

The BURDEN

Much like the Samurai of old, it is the duty of a Senpai is to serve.  Their honor to acquire, preserve, and perpetuate our arts and traditions. Their responsibility to promote the highest ideals of Heiwa-do karate.
By virtue of these duties and responsibilities, Teaching Senpai are granted greater authority than would otherwise be accorded them by rank alone.  Their very purpose is to insure the growth of Heiwa-do Karate, and to build and maintain the Honor of their Dojo.
Within their ranks, the Senpai maintain the following hierarchy.

Senior Assistant Instructor
(SAI)
18+ years
Black Belt

Assistant Instructor
(AI)
16+ years
3rd kyu brown belt or higher

Teaching Assistant
(TA)
15+ years or older
6th kyu ~ green belt or higher

Junior Leader
(JL or JS)
under 15 years old
5th kyu ~ blue belt or higher

These designations are assigned to recognize authority and promote order within the dojo.  Incidents of novice level teaching assistants or junior leaders misrepresenting themselves as instructors or teachers, or of possessing undocumented, or unverifiable proficiency in other disciplines for the purposes of self-aggrandizement, have been and will continue to be dealt with severly.

Our purpose is,
"Not to conquer others, but to conquer the weaknesses within ourselves."
